FLATS • OYSTER BAYS • BACKCOUNTRY
Redfish on light tackle.
Redfish are a favorite target on the shallow flats and inshore waters of Southwest Florida. Capt. Andy’s original fishing information highlights Fort Myers, Matlacha and Pine Island as go-to areas.
Look for the copper-colored fish around deeper potholes and feeding across the flats. Live shrimp, greenbacks and pinfish are among the baits used, along with spoons, jigs and topwater lures.
Follow the seasonal opportunities
Redfish occur locally year-round. The original guide describes increased schooling activity from summer into fall, particularly around July through October. Conditions on your dates determine the day’s plan.
Plan your backcountry charter
Cape Coral, Sanibel, Captiva and the surrounding communities put anglers within reach of these fishing grounds. Ask about availability for a redfish trip, especially during the months when Capt. Andy concentrates on tarpon.
Private charters include bait, tackle and fishing license coverage for up to four anglers. Contact the captain to choose the trip length and pickup arrangement.
